Liverpool blow as European heavyweights offer roadblock in bargain £4m deal for La Liga ace

Ignacio CamachoStill plenty to play for in Liverpool land this season, though the Reds fans who frequent the Transfer Tavern are undoubtedly excited about what is expected to be a major summer of transfer activity at the club. They’ve suffered a blow, however, with reports from that Benfica have rivalled them in the race for Malaga midfielder Ignacio Camacho.

The Spaniard has been hotly tipped to be one of the first arrivals as Klopp’s summer plans begin in earnest, with reports back in February going as far as t claim the 25-year old even visited their Melwood training base.

A central midfielder noted for his high intensity, the former Atletico Madrid youngster would likely be a natural fit in the ‘heavy metal’ brand of football deployed by the German.

With the La Liga outfit said to be prepared to sell their engine room ace for a cut-price £4m in an effort to covert some much needed funds, it seemed as if it would be a good deal for the Merseyside giants.

However, it is claimed the Benfica have also been keeping tabs on the former La Roja international and could offer him the added lure of Champions League football next year.

The Lisbon based titans of Portuguese football are currently leading Porto by two points at the top of the table and have virtually guaranteed another season of entry to Europe’s elite continental competition.

They do face the unenviable task of trying overturn a 1-0 deficit at home to Bayern Munich in order to progress into the semi-finals of this competition, however.

How do you feel about this, Reds fans? Gutted to be missing out on such a seemingly natural fit under Klopp at a relatively small price?
