One of Liverpool’s promising young forwards could be tempted to the Bundesliga if he cannot make a breakthrough into the first-team at Anfield.
The Daily Mail reported that Borussia Dortmund are among a group of clubs from Germany showing an interest in Liverpool striker Bobby Duncan.
The 18-year-old scored for the Reds in their first pre-season fixture on Thursday night, netting the final goal in the 6-0 win over Tranmere.
While the Liverpool Echo reported that Jurgen Klopp intends to give Duncan a chance to impress during the Reds’ pre-season programme, the youngster has reportedly expressed concerns over his prospects of getting into the first-team frame at Anfield, which could open the door to a club like Dortmund.
He scored 18 times in 20 appearances in the Under-18 Premier League and, according to the Daily Mail, has been namechecked by Klopp as someone who the manager will be watching very closely over the coming weeks.
However, it will likely take a very prolific pre-season for Duncan to forge his way into Klopp’s first team plans for the upcoming campaign.
The teenager is one of several young forwards competing for the manager’s attention. Fellow academy players Paul Glatzel and Rhian Brewster, along with Wales duo Harry Wilson and Ben Woodburn, are also in the squad.
While Duncan may have found the target against Tranmere, Brewster did even more to put his hand up for future inclusion in the first team, scoring twice at Prenton Park.
Barring an exceptional pre-season, Duncan could be best served by a loan move to Dortmund. The Bundesliga club have previous in giving young English talent a chance, with Jadon Sancho excelling in the Ruhr. A loan spell in Germany from a top-six Premier League club also worked out well for Reiss Nelson, scorer of seven goals for Hoffenheim last season.
