Liverpool boss gives update on Emre Can’s contract saga

Emre Can is a player that divides opinion among Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern, with some in awe of the German’s majestic playing style, while others slate him for not being mobile enough to truly thrive in a Jurgen Klopp team.

And this has made the saga developing around his contract at the club all the more interesting, with the 23-year-old’s future somewhat up in the air.

Indeed, the Liverpool Echo have claimed that he wants £100,000-per-week to extend his terms with the club as his deal heads towards its final 12 months and that talks have been shelved until the end of the season.

However, Klopp, speaking ahead of his team’s weekend trip to Manchester City, has lifted the lid slightly on the situation, revealing that discussions with Can are ongoing and that the player “likes” it at the club:

“We are in talks. Emre likes to be here. We really like him as a player and person. Nothing else to say.”

Can has been starting regularly for Liverpool of late with captain Jordan Henderson sidelined and netted the winning goal in last weekend’s 2-1 victory over Burnley.

Emre Can is worthy of a new contract at Liverpool – agree?
