Liverpool braced for Rodgers’ Celtic raid, Klopp willing to allow defender deal

Gomez

Despite leading the club to a second placed finish, Brendan Rodgers has never been the most popular of individuals amongst the Liverpool supporters in the Transfer Tavern.

Now, the Northern Irishman has become even less so.

That’s because, according to the Scottish Sun, the newly installed Celtic chief is targeting an audacious loan move for Liverpool defender Joe Gomez this summer.

The 19-year old was signed under his regime from Charlton Athletic last summer and took to life in the Premier League in barnstorming fashion, before suffering a season ending cruciate ligament injury back in October.

Able to operate as either a central defender or a full-back, the teenager proved to be an extremely shrewd addition for just £3.5m and certainly impressed Rodgers.

It is claimed that while current Reds chief Jurgen Klopp views the England under-21 international as a crucial part of his long term plans, he would be open to the notion of allowing the defender to move on loan for a short period.

With there likely to be a major overhaul at Celtic Park this summer as the Scottish Champions gear up for the return of Rangers in the top flight, Rodgers is reportedly desperate to draft in some defensive quality over the next few months.

Should Gomez be farmed out on loan? Could he be more useful for Liverpool playing regularly?
