Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to be handed another transfer war chest to strengthen his squad in the summer.
The German spent big last year, adding Alisson Becker, Xherdan Shaqiri, Naby Keita and Fabinho to his squad. Most of his arrivals have already become key players for the Reds and Anfield is now finally starting to see Keita’s true colours after a difficult start. Despite Manchester City closing the gap at the top of the table, Klopp opted not to spend in January.
Their lack of signings in the New Year will only add to the former Borussia Dortmund boss’ budget in the summer transfer window. With Liverpool posting excellent financial results off the field, the Reds could be set for another summer of spending.
One man Klopp should be targeting is Ajax maestro – Hakim Ziyech. Valued at £31.5m by Transfermarkt, the Morocco international has been one of the Eredivisie’s best players for a number of seasons. After another superb campaign last season, where he netted nine goals and created 15 in the league, he was tipped for a move to Roma – however, the transfer collapsed at the final hour.
The 25-year-old simply continued where he left off, bettering his goal tally for last year already in the current campaign; finding the back of the net 12 times in the league as well as netting against Real Madrid in the Champions League. Ziyech has been equally impressive in the creative department, registering 12 assists in all competitions.
Liverpool are yet to replace Philippe Coutinho’s magic and have sorely lacked a true playmaker at times throughout the season – Ziyech could prove to be the final piece of the puzzle in the summer.
