Philippe Coutinho at Liverpool seems like a far off distant memory for supporters of the club.
The Brazilian’s departure from Merseyside for Barcelona in a blockbuster £142 million transfer at face value looked to be a move that would damage Liverpool in the future and leave them lacking in the attacking third, and after nearly 18 months, things have never looked better for the Reds.
Liverpool are preparing for a second consecutive Champions League final whilst also finishing just a point behind eventual Premier League champions Manchester City in the table, and although the Reds have never been better, the creativity that left the club with Coutinho has been missed.
But, with the season almost over and the transfer window almost open for business, Jurgen Klopp has the finances to fill the void left by their former Brazilian magician, and one player could make Liverpool fans forget all about Coutinho.
According to ESPN, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool are the likely contenders as to who will sign Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Julian Brandt, who despite being valued at £40.5 million on Transfermarkt has a release clause of £21 million, and the German international can be the perfect replacement for Coutinho.
The 23-year-old has been a star in the Bundesliga ever since his breakout season in 2013, and with the creative ability to replace Coutinho and the potential to even surpass the abilities of the Barcelona playmaker, the signing seems almost too perfect for Liverpool not to make.
Brandt has what it takes to bring the creative joy Coutinho brought back to Liverpool, and with such a low release clause, Klopp will be crazy not to go in for the versatile German playmaker.
Liverpool fans, will Brandt be a good successor for Coutinho? Let us know!
