Liverpool confident of sealing £20m deal, Klopp pips Spurs to playmaker coup

While the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are no doubt excited about the notion of pipping both Everton and Spurs to a target, most of them can’t make heads nor tails of this one.

According to the Telegraph, the Reds are leading the race to land £25m rated Newcastle United midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum this summer.

Clearly, the Dutchman is a good player and showed glimpses of excellence during his year in the North East, despite their relegation, but the idea of having yet another attacking midfielder has surprised our Merseyside locals.

Still, in Jurgen they trust.

The German coach is reportedly confident of sealing a £20m deal for the 25-year old, who joined the Magpies for £14.5m only last summer, though Toon chief Rafa Benitez has constantly roared he is under no pressure to sell unless it is right for the club.

Arch rivals Everton, as well as Tottenham Hotspur, have been strongly linked with the Oranje ace, who is currently on pre-season duty with the Magpies in Ireland.

Do Liverpool really need another midfielder?
