Liverpool could suffer unwelcome transfer setback after club official’s comments

Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern will be nursing hangovers after their emphatic aggregate win against Manchester City in the Champions League, however, there may be some bad news on the horizon for the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp’s side came from behind to defeat Pep Guardiola’s team on the night and ensure they would progress to the semi-finals of the European competition. The Anfield outfit will now be feeling confident that they can go all the way and lift the trophy.

The Reds could go on to face AS Roma in the next round, where they would be able to get a closer look at Alisson, however, it appears that the goalkeeper will not be leaving the Serie A side in the summer, despite old links with a move to Merseyside.

According to quotes sourced by the Daily Mail, club president James Pallotta does not believe the Brazil international will leave amid interest from Liverpool and Real Madrid and eluded to the long-term deal still in place.

“Why should he leave? He will stay – he has a contract,” he said prior to their stunning victory over Barcelona at the Stadio Olimpico last night.

“I love him and I have never wanted to sell him. I thought he was great and now he’s showing how good he is.”

Though Loris Karius has improved of late, the idea that Alisson could join did go down well amongst our resident Reds and the fact he looks likely to remain in the Italian capital has annoyed our local Kopites ever so slightly.

Landlord’s Verdict

The Liverpool fans in the Tavern will be concerned if they can not sign Alisson in the summer, with plenty of talk during the campaign about finding a goalkeeper to take over from Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius, although the latter has performed admirably in recent matches.

Still, Karius has looked good of late and the punters propping up our bar are starting to back the German.

Liverpool fans – thoughts?
