Joe Allen has developed into somewhat of a cult hero amongst the Liverpool crowd who frequent the Transfer Tavern in their droves recently.
However, the burgeoning relationship could soon be brought to a close following reports in the Daily Mail that the ‘Welsh Xavi’ is nearing a return to former club Swansea City.
Despite his recent resurgence, the Welsh midfielder has largely under performed since joining the Reds in a £15m deal back in 2012 to kick off the Brendan Rodgers era.
Entering the final year of his deal, it is claimed that talks over a new one on Merseyside are not planned going forward ahead of what is likely to be a major summer of transfer activity.
There is thought to be a difference in valuation as things stand, with the Anfield giants understood to be asking for upwards of £10m despite his contract situation.
However, former Swans boss Brendan Rodgers – known to be a huge fan of the Welsh international – is believed to be the Welsh club’s top managerial target heading into the summer.
As a result, an emotional return for the two parties at the Liberty Stadium has been suggested.
Has Allen done enough to deserve a new deal at Anfield? Can he feel hard done by? Is he a better player than he was when he left the Liberty?
