Former England striker Darren Bent has called on Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to find a place for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in his starting line-up.
The Reds midfielder has scored four goals in as many games for the club in the last month and was also on target for England in their 7-0 win over Montenegro in Euro 2020 qualifying last week.
He is currently riding the crest of a wave after being ruled out for almost all of last season due to a serious knee injury he suffered in April 2018 and Bent feels that he deserves to be starting regularly on current form.
Speaking to Football Insider about Oxlade-Chamberlain, he said: “He’s playing really well. Klopp must be thinking: ‘How am I going to get him in?’
“It’s not even really that hard to get him in the team. I think Fabinho plays that holding role really well and I do think there’s two places up for grabs.
“With his performances at the minute, I think he’s fully deserved to be playing. For England right now, he’s got to be one of their main men in midfield. Somehow he looks better now and more powerful than before he got injured. He was playing really well and he’s come back and looks even better.”
Bent is right to make a case for Oxlade-Chamberlain to hold down a regular starting spot in Liverpool’s midfield given his recent form.

However, despite returning from his year-long injury layoff last April and showing excellent form in recent weeks, the 26-year-old has started only two Premier League games for Liverpool all season, the last of which came against Newcastle more than two months ago.
All four goals this season have come in games where he was in the team from the first whistle, having started and scored in both Champions League wins over Genk as well as the Carabao Cup penalty shoot-out elimination of Arsenal. [via TransferMarkt]
Oxlade-Chamberlain is not the only Liverpool midfielder to have found the net recently – Adam Lallana, James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum have all scored for the club since mid-October, with the latter also claiming a hat-trick for the Netherlands in Euro 2020 qualifying last night.
However, the ex-Arsenal midfielder is the midfield man who is scoring consistently for the Reds, and the confidence he must be gleaming from his scoring streak ought to make him a tremendous asset to the team, as well as instilling fear in opponents with his selection alone.
That Oxlade-Chamberlain could come back from such a long spell out injured to find the form he has shown of late makes it seem baffling that he isn’t an automatic pick for Liverpool’s midfield, so it’s easy to see why Bent is clamouring for Klopp to find a place for him in the starting XI.
