As the dust settles following another incredible European night at Anfield, the Liverpool fans who were previously over the moon have been brought crashing back down to earth.
That’s because, according to the Daily Mirror, key midfielder Emre Can is a doubt to feature again at all this season.
The German was forced off during last night’s epic 4-3 win over Borussia Dortmund with an ankle injury and is said to have left Anfield on crutches.
His injury was the one sour note from a glorious evening of football on Merseyside, with the 22-year old unlikely to play again this term.
A scan will determine whether or not he has suffered ligament damage in the problem ankle, which could even rule him out of Germany’s Euro 2016 campaign.
He is said to have been seen sporting a protective boot, having injured himself trying to meet a cross.
The news comes just a week or so after fellow midfielder Jordan Henderson was ruled out for the rest of the season following a knee injury of his own.
Now through to the semi-finals of the Europa League, Jurgen Klopp will be without two of his most important midfielders as he attempts to win the competition and lead the club into the Champions League.
Just how big a miss will Can and Henderson be for the rest of the season?
