Liverpool defender deal could cost up to £20m

Ahead of their EFL Cup semi-final with Southampton tonight, the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are moving to calm their nerves with a few pints.

For many of our Merseyside drinkers, the cup has taken a backseat as they hope and pray that Jurgen Klopp delivers a first Premier League title to Anfield, with the Reds certainly within touching distance of league leaders Chelsea.

Just five points behind the Blues, the Kop faithful propping up the bar believe the January transfer window provides a real chance for Klopp to get a squad together capable of one final push.

While the notion of some big-money arrivals at the club obviously dominate their conversations, a story on BBC Sport has provided them some food for thought.

They’ve revealed the Reds will demand up to £20m for outcast defender Mamadou Sakho should he leave Anfield this month, after the Frenchman fell down the pecking order under Klopp.

Despite some good performances last season making him one of the club’s most popular players, the 26-year-old has had disciplinary problems since and was sent home from the club’s preseason tour of the United States.

The likes of Southampton and Sevilla have been touted as potential destinations for the former PSG ace, who looks unlikely to play under Klopp again.

Can Sakho still salvage a career at Anfield? Let us know below..
