When Liverpool needed a miracle against Barcelona, the unlikeliest hero emerged to guide them to the light. Indeed, it really was a Mersey paradise.

Divock Origi, who had barely started a handful of games all season, rose up to write his name into Liverpool history.

Obviously, the Belgian rose through the ranks to be the leader in Liverpool’s comeback. Famously, he pounced upon the ball in front of the open goal like a cheetah to give Liverpool the lead and set the tempo for the game. With the tie set in 3-3, the 24-year-old improvised a cheeky tactic to fire Trent Alexander-Arnold’s intelligent corner past Gerard Pique and Marc Andre Ter-Stegen.

The initial celebrations were controlled as Origi wanted to get the job done before the Kop erupted. In only his second Champions League start this season, he wrote the stuff of legends in a historic night at Anfield. All night, he was excellent with his movement, link-up play with Xherdan Shaqiri and Sadio Mane.

Even aside from the goals, he looked ready to lead the line for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Origi expertly used his hold-up play excellently to stitch together moves, while also destabilizing Pique and Clement Lenglet’s partnership with clever movement. Roberto Firmino was smiling wide in the sidelines, but he knows that the competition just became even tougher for leading the Reds’ line.

While the Brazilian will surely be first choice for the final, Origi proved he can do a similar job to the former Hoffenheim ace. Indeed, it's not as if Firmino has been banging the goals in all season when compared to his previous campaigns, so his teammate's performance has certainly made his life harder when it comes to battling for the starting XI.

Many rumours linking Liverpool to world-class strikers have made the rounds over the past few months, with the likes of Timo Werner mentioned. Well, Origi just shut them down. Years after playing a part in the UEFA Europa League comeback against Borussia Dortmund, the Belgian has evolved with the times and proved why he deserves more respect at Liverpool.
