Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have spent the last few weeks debating with our landlord about how Jurgen Klopp will look to strengthen his squad during the summer transfer window.
Currently third in the Premier League table, the Reds will need to add depth to a first-team squad that looks set to compete in the Champions League next season – or in the Europa League at a bare minimum.
And reports from Spain suggest Klopp is already eyeing one addition to his midfield in the form of Real Madrid’s prodigious youngster Marco Asensio, who scored in Los Blancos’ 4-2 win over Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Indeed, AS have corroborated claims from radio programme El Partidazo de Cope that Liverpool have tabled a €50million bid for the highly-rated 21-year-old, which converts to £41.99million – and would constitute a club-record transfer fee for the Merseysiders.
However, it’s added that Real Madrid have no intention of selling Asensio, have rejected the Reds’ offer and that the Spain international is happy with life at the Bernabeu.
Liverpool fans having a few rounds of pool in the Tavern would love to see Asensio at Anfield next season, rated as one of European football’s most promising youngsters, but accept he may be too ambitious a target for Klopp this summer.
