Loads of Liverpool fans were livid with referee Szymon Marciniak after their side's 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

The Reds failed to get a shot on target at the Wanda Metropolitano, the same stadium where they beat Spurs 2-0 last June to win their sixth European crown. An early goal from Saul Niguez in the fourth minute gave the hosts the advantage going into the second leg at Anfield. Despite the Merseyside club's poor distribution in the final third (as per WhoScored, no midfielder made a key pass), there was one man that they left feeling most frustrated about.

James Pearce of The Athletic voiced his opinion about the man in the middle following his decision to book manager Jurgen Klopp, which came from a catalogue of decisions that the Reds did not get, coupled with Atleti's timewasting tactics and going down under a slight challenge. As a result, supporters agreed with the views of Pearce and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan simply said that he was not wrong after the final whistle.
