Plenty of Liverpool fans were pleased to see Jurgen Klopp reverting to a 4-2-3-1 formation today.

The Reds' line-up for the visit of Watford to Anfield showed three changes from the team that began the midweek win against Red Bull Salzburg.

Xherdan Shaqiri and Joe Gomez came in for Naby Keita and the injured Dejan Lovren respectively, while James Milner marked his contract extension by coming in for Andrew Robertson at left-back. [via Sky Sports]

Klopp's 4-2-3-1 setup saw Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum start at the base of midfield, with Shaqiri, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane forming an attacking midfield trident behind centre-forward Mohamed Salah, scorer of both goals in Liverpool's 2-0 victory against the Hornets. Having gone with 4-3-3 for most of the season, the Reds' boss has made abundant use of 4-2-3-1 recently, choosing that setup for the wins over Everton and Bournemouth earlier in December. [via TransferMarkt]

These Liverpool fans on Twitter approved of the manager's preference for 4-2-3-1, with one remarking that the Reds should start getting used to it with the likely arrival of Takumi Minamino in January (as per The Independent):
