Liverpool fans are living in dreamland with bold Sturridge call after UCL win

Liverpool continued their superb start to the season with a 3-2 win over PSG on Tuesday night but also gave away two sloppy goals to almost allow the Ligue 1 champions to steal a point.

After a summer where the club spent heavily to try and capture their first Premier League title, the Reds have started the season in blistering form and currently sit top of the league. While the front three may not be firing as well as it was last season just yet, at the back Liverpool have improved massively thanks to the emergence of Joe Gomez next to Virgil Van Dijk. Moreover, in midfield, James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum have been in impressive form and dominated the middle of the park against PSG.

The one area that is going to be crucial for Liverpool over the season is the ability of their squad players to step in and provide quality when the likes of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino are out. Indeed, Daniel Sturridge was brought into the starting lineup ahead of Firmino on Tuesday night and made an instant impact by scoring Liverpool’s first goal.

Indeed, following the game, one of our writers delved into to Twitter and found that many Liverpool fans were praising Sturridge and even saying that he’s a better player than Harry Kane.

When fit, Sturridge is definitely one of the most talented strikers in the league and easily one of the best English players. However, his terrible injury record has halted his development and hindered a career which should’ve seen him as an England international regular.

Indeed, during Liverpool’s bittersweet 2013/14 season, Sturridge showcased his ability as he scored 22 goals in 29 games but aside from that, the former Chelsea man has never been anywhere near back to his best. To even think that the forward is a better player after scoring one goal against PSG, seems quite far-fetched.

While Harry Kane hasn’t had the best of starts, his goalscoring record over the last few seasons has been incredible. Last year he had his best season for Tottenham and scored 30 goals in 37 games and has now established himself as arguably the best out and out striker in the world. Sturridge is a talented striker but the comparison with Harry Kane isn’t justified at all.
