Liverpool supporters have been making a lot of noise in recent times after seeing their team record an eighth Premier League victory of the season at the weekend.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their encounter with struggling Cardiff City having picked up 23 points from their opening nine league games, and thus level on points with leaders Manchester City ahead of last weekend’s round of fixtures. And the Reds went top on their own for 48 hours by beating Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds 4-1 at Anfield, with a brace from Sadio Mane alongside goals from Mohamed Salah and Xherdan Shaqiri inspiring the hosts to a routine success on Merseyside.
As such, there have been many thrilled Liverpudlians up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have taken to Twitter recently to react to a statistic that states forward Salah has laid on more assists since his return to English football in 2017 than Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil.
And that has led many Reds fans to laud the Egypt international, with that tally, alongside his goal tally and indeed against whom he has scored and assisted, underlining that the Liverpool frontman is indeed better than Arsenal’s Ozil.
Ultimately, there were some raised eyebrows when Klopp’s side lured Salah back to the Premier League in the summer of 2017 following his testing stint at Chelsea, but he soon put those doubters in their place by embarking upon one of the all time great goal-scoring campaigns.
The 26-year-old bagged a staggering 44 goals in all competitions last term to help the Reds finish fourth and indeed reach the final of the Champions League, while he also laid on an impressive 16 assists to underline his capabilities as both a goal-scorer and indeed a creator.
Significantly though, and ultimately what helps set him apart from Arsenal’s Ozil, was that the Egyptian star produced the goods when Liverpool needed it most, be it in both Champions League quarter-final clashes against Manchester City and indeed the semi-final against Roma, or in netting in the Premier League against fellow top six sides City, Chelsea, Tottenham, and indeed the Gunners.
Compare that record to that of Ozil, who has repeatedly been criticised for his inability to deliver on the big stage since his move to the Emirates Stadium, and it’s clear that Salah is in a different league to the Arsenal attacker.
Yes, Ozil’s performance against Leicester City last week was simply outstanding and very much indicative of what he can do when at his best, but that best simply isn’t seen on a consistent enough basis – and even in a campaign in which some feel Salah isn’t quite on it, he still has more goals and indeed assists to his name than the Gunners ace.
Thus, while Salah was rightly lauded for his incredible goal-scoring return last season, he has been just as impressive in creating goals for his teammates as well, delivering week in week out and indeed on the biggest stages.
And that, alongside the fact that he has outdone Arsenal’s Ozil in the last 12 months or so, demonstrates that the £135 million-rated Liverpool man (as per Transfermarkt) is indeed better than the Gunners attacker.
