Liverpool fans are so wrong: Jurgen Klopp must opt against recalling Harry Wilson

Liverpool supporters have been pretty satisfied throughout the international break despite seeing their side fail to win any of their four matches prior to the two-week interruption.

Jurgen Klopp’s men had made a 100% start to the new season in winning their opening six Premier League games and indeed beating Paris Saint-Germain in their first Champions League encounter, but their momentum has been somewhat stemmed in recent times. The Reds lost to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup back on September 26 before drawing 1-1 with the Blues a few days later in the league, from which a defeat at Napoli and another draw, this time against Premier League leaders Manchester City, followed before the international break.

Nonetheless, there have been many satisfied Liverpudlians up and down the country in recent times given their side’s solid start to the campaign, and several have been taking to Twitter recently to heap praise on youngster Harry Wilson, who has shone on loan at Derby County and indeed for Wales in the last few weeks.

In fact, many of those Liverpool supporters have called for manager Klopp to recall the 21-year-old come January, but it would be totally the wrong decision to make given he is clearly making strides at Derby, yet he wouldn’t return to Liverpool as a first-choice winger.

Ultimately, there’s a reason that Klopp sanctioned the Welshman’s temporary move to Frank Lampard’s Rams back in August, with his likely lack of regular football at Anfield alongside the chance of development and progress in the Championship without doubt in the best interests of Wilson himself.

And the 21-year-old does appear to be enjoying his football at Pride Park and indeed developing as a player in scoring twice and laying on one assist in nine appearances for the East Midlands giants, with perhaps his best moment coming in netting a stunning free-kick to help Derby beat Manchester United in the Carabao Cup last month.

Add in another magnificent free-kick for Ryan Giggs’ Wales in their 1-0 success over the Republic of Ireland earlier this week, and Wilson is enjoying a very rich vein of form – but that shouldn’t convince Klopp into making the key decision to bring him back to Anfield.

Regardless of how well the 21-year-old winger is currently doing, he is simply not going to get into the Liverpool first team ahead of the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, while summer signing Xherdan Shaqiri is another who is almost certainly ahead of him in the pecking order.

Thus, why take him away from regular football in a competitive division at a side seeking promotion in Derby to come back and sit on the bench, if he’s lucky, at Liverpool? It would completely defeat the point of him going out on loan in the first place if his first good spell of form prompted the Reds to recall him.

Yes, Wilson deserves great credit for his recent form and will certainly return to Anfield a better player for his experiences at Derby, but those Reds fans calling for his recall in January are so wrong – it’s a key decision Klopp must opt against making.
