Liverpool fans have been reacting and reflecting on their side’s 3-1 defeat against Blackburn during the 2010/11 campaign, and believe that one moment during that game was the catalyst for change.
Should Steven Gerrard take over from Klopp in 2024?
Steven Gerrard missed a second-half penalty which would have brought the game to 3-2 and possibly gave the Reds a chance to go on and level the proceedings.
His run-up was not right and looked to lack confidence as he blazed his spot-kick over the bar.
Manager Roy Hodgson was sacked a few days following the loss, with legend Kenny Dalglish replacing him before their FA Cup tie against Manchester United.
Fans believe to this day that captain fantastic intentionally missed the penalty to dig his club out of the mire and set a new positive trajectory for his beloved team.
Supporters were thankful for the former skipper for his actions during the game and made their feelings clear on social media.
Here you will find some of the best comments from Liverpool fans:
Think about this a lot. Never seen him take one in that style before or after. Knew exactly what needed to be done
