Liverpool: Fans criticise Joe Gomez after victory against Genk

Liverpool fans have criticised the performance of Joe Gomez despite his side getting a 2-1 win against Genk in the Champions League.

The young England international started alongside the colossus Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the defence but were unable to keep a clean sheet after they conceded from a set-piece scored by Mbwana Samatta.

Goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain meant that Liverpool moved to the top of Group E after Napoli could only draw 1-1 against RB Salzburg.

Even though Liverpool got the win, fans aimed Gomez after the performance but his statistics suggest that he had a good outing for the Merseyside club.

Defensively, he made four interceptions, four clearances but only made one tackle during the game. He kept possession well as he made a total of 88 passes and had a success rate of 85.2%.

Even though he accumulated some good figures during the game, supporters were not convinced with his performance against the Belgian champions. One fan thinks that he should “pull his socks up” and that he is currently “fourth choice” at centre half.
