The capture of James Milner on a free transfer back in 2015 should be regarded as a success given his impact in helping the Reds challenge for the league title over the last two seasons as well as featuring in their Champions League win but the veteran midfielder certainly took a lot of flack on social media last night.

Indeed, while the European champions did rescue a result against Napoli after falling behind to a Dries Mertens opener, the former Manchester City ace bore the brunt of criticism for his performance. Handed a 6/10 rating by the Daily Express, he wasn't a popular man on Twitter despite eventually supplying the assist for Dejan Lovren.

Out of contract at the end of the season, the Telegraph reported back in September that the club had opened talks over a new deal but plenty of supporters online were seemingly against that idea last night.

With that in mind, here's a closer look at some of the reaction.
