Loads of Liverpool fans have been reacting to a throwback clip of Emre Can, in which the former Red produced a stunning assist.
Early in Jurgen Klopp’s reign Liverpool did not produce anywhere near the kind of consistent results they do now, but they did throw up the occasional stunning performance.
Think the 4-3 win over Borussia Dortmund, think the 3-1 win at Chelsea or 4-1 success at the Etihad, or in this case, think smashing Southampton 6-1 in the League Cup.
The Reds romped to the big victory in December 2015, with Divock Origi announcing himself to the Anfield faithful with a hat-trick, while Daniel Sturridge and Jordon Ibe were also on the score-sheet.
The standout moment of the match however was a remarkable assist from Can, who chopped inside a defender and curled the ball with the outside of his boot beyond the Saints defence – which included Virgil van Dijk – and into the path of Sturridge.
Lots of fans have been reflecting on the amazing piece of skill, with one even calling it ‘Gerrardesque’…
Wow completely forgot about this, absolutely unreal assist
