The midfielder came to Anfield from Newcastle on November 13th, 1974 and would go on to enjoy plenty of success for the Reds.
McDermott, who played for the Geordies against Liverpool in that year’s FA Cup final, was signed by Bob Paisley for £170,000 and, as noted by the club’s official website, he went on to become “a key figure” in the Reds’ midfield with “his penetrating runs from deep positions”.
He won four league titles, three European Cups and two League Cups during his time at Liverpool and was also named PFA Player of the Year in 1980. [archived from liverpoolfc.tv]
He scored in the Reds’ first European Cup final triumph in 1977, with other famous goals including a long-range effort against Everton in that year’s FA Cup semi-finals and the finishing touch to a pitch-length passage of play in a 7-0 thrashing of Tottenham in 1978. [archived from liverpoolfc.tv]

When all my mates wanted to be Kenny, Souness and Ray Kennedy when we were growing up I always wanted to be Terry Mac. When I play with the kids I still am! #Legend
