Fans are reminiscing over Mohamed Salah’s interview comments following his transfer from Roma to Liverpool in 2017.
The Egyptian goal-machine has established himself as one of the best players to pull on a Liverpool jersey, particularly after he recently became the first player since Michael Owen in 2002/03 to score 20+ goals in three consecutive seasons (via Goal).
Now fans are looking back to where it all started, a £34million deal for Roma’s prolific winger who previously had a stint in the Premier League at Chelsea but didn’t make the desired impact (via BBC Sport).
After signing for the Reds, Salah said: “To come back to England was always in my mind. When I heard Liverpool I said ‘okay it’s time’.
“People were saying ‘he’s not good enough for English football he shouldn’t come back’ but in mind I was like ‘it’s my league, I will come back!’”
And indeed, the rest is history since his famous comments. Since penning his future with Liverpool, Salah has scored 91 goals and tallied 37 assists over 144 appearances in red (via Transfermarkt). His worth has also skyrocketed since his arrival on Merseyside, spiking from £36million to a gargantuan £135million (also Transfermarkt).
Fans are loving the throwback to Salah’s comments, with one supporter saying ‘he wasn’t lying’ about the Premier League being his league.
