Liverpool fans have reacted to the news that Xherdan Shaqiri will miss the Reds’ trip to MK Dons this evening as the Reds look to progress into the next round of the Carabao Cup.
Indeed, Shaqiri picked up a knock when training at Melwood on Monday and will, therefore, have to watch the game against the Dons from the sideline according to the club’s official website.
Assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders said “yesterday towards the end of training, Shaq felt his calf stiffen up a little bit.
“He couldn’t continue and a scan showed he had a little tear there. We need to wait a couple of days, but for sure he’s not in contention for tomorrow. He needs some rest, so he will not be involved.”
In addition to Shaqiri – who has had extremely limited involvement this season, the Anfield club also remain without Alisson Becker and Divock Origi with the pair still sidelined due to calf and ankle problems respectively, however, they both “continue to make good progress in their rehabilitations”.
It seems many fans were excited to see the former Inter Milan and Stoke City star return to the side, having played just 25 minutes this season, via Transfermarkt, but it wasn’t to be and they responded to the matter on Twitter.
