Liverpool: Fans hail Trent Alexander-Arnold on 3-year anniversary of first-team debut

Three years ago today, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp handed a competitive first team debut to a teenage right-back in the Reds’ 2-1 win over Tottenham in the EFL Cup.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has since gone on to win the Champions League with the club and, on the three-year anniversary of his Reds debut, he tweeted: “Time flies! 3 years since my debut…loving it #YNWA”, along with an image of him in action on the night. [via @trentaa98]

The right-back made his Premier League debut against Middlesbrough two months later and was then given his first league start away to Manchester United in January 2017. He ended the 2016/17 campaign as Liverpool’s Young Player of the Season.

Alexander-Arnold made a further 34 appearances the following season, scoring three times and playing in the Champions League final against Real Madrid, with 40 appearances and a Champions League winner’s medal to show for his efforts in 2018/19.

Having only turned 21 earlier this month, he is already just two games away from 100 first team appearances for Liverpool, while he is the youngest player to start in two consecutive Champions League finals.

In recent days, he has been nominated for the Ballon d’Or and entered the Guinness World Records book for 2020 for the most Premier League assists by a defender in one season.

Alexander-Arnold has followed in the footsteps of players such as Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher in graduating from Liverpool’s academy to become a first team regular and European champion at the club.

These Liverpool fans on Twitter showed their appreciation for the 21-year-old after seeing his tweet:

Have you been pleasantly surprised with Alexander-Arnold’s progression in the three years since he made his Liverpool debut? Just how good could he eventually become? Have your say by commenting below!
