Liverpool youngster Neco Williams has been reflecting on a memorable senior debut for the Reds, a game in which he made a significant contribution.
On his first team debut against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup recently, the teenage right-back provided the cross from which Divock Origi volleyed the equaliser in the fourth minute of stoppage time to make the score 5-5 and take the game to a penalty shoot-out that the Reds ultimately won. Williams reflected with enormous pride on that performance, saying: “Not many footballers get to say they made their debut for Liverpool at Anfield“. He went on to describe the occasion as “a dream come true“.
He admitted that he “cramped up everywhere” when he struck the cross from which Origi equalised and would have struggled to get back if Arsenal had managed to win possession from the delivery, adding that he has watched back footage of the goal “hundreds of times“.
Williams may be hoping to emulate fellow Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who graduated from the club’s Academy to win the Champions League and make 102 first team appearances so far, having only turned 21 last month.
These Liverpool fans on Twitter were encouraged by the teenager’s debut performance and hope to see more of him in the near future:
