Popular stat website WhoScored has released a Liverpool Team of the Season going purely off this campaign’s individual statistics and many fans don’t agree in the slightest.
The WhoScored team consists of: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Lovren, van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Keïta; Salah, Firmino, Mané in an unfamiliar 5-2-3 formation (via @AnfieldEdition).
Many fans are questioning why Dejan Lovren is in the lineup and the why the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum are not. The Croatian centre-back has come under a lot of scrutiny during his time with the Reds and reports this season have linked him with a move out of Anfield (via Liverpool Echo).
Is Timo Werner definitely coming to Liverpool in 2020?
Supporters have responded to the ‘Best XI’ with many simply laughing at the some of the players featured in the lineup. One fan has said the team is ‘another great example that football is more than stats’. Other Reds think the lineup is ‘fake’, with one telling the Twitter account to ‘delete it’.
lovren, delete it
