Our landlord’s having to keep two groups of Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern at arms length, with a heated discussion over reported target Joe Hart verging upon boiling point.
Earlier this week, The Sun reported that the Manchester City goalkeeper – who has spent the season on loan at Torino after falling out of favour with Pep Guardiola – would move to Anfield in the summer in a £20million permanent deal.
That caused scenes of mild jubilation in the Tavern – accordingly raising ale sales at the bar – with some Liverpool fans celebrating the strong suggestion that they won’t have to put up with Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius between the Anfield sticks in 2017/18.
But Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has now discussed the reported swoop, insisting that there is no deal to sign Hart and that he doesn’t plan to pursue one in the near future – rating both the Belgium international and the German shot-stopper already at his disposal highly.
As quoted by BBC Sport, he said; “He’s a fantastic keeper, the highest quality, but it’s not for us at the moment, nor in the future.”
The decision on Klopp’s part has inevitably left the Tavern’s Reds patrons divided. In contrast to those already mentioned, some think Mignolet is actually a better goalkeeper at Hart, or at least on the same level as the error-prone England No.1, whilst Karius could show serious progression next season.
