Every year, FIFA award the best footballer of teh year with the coveted Ballon d’Or trophy. Over the last ten years, it’s been dominated by the rivalry between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but this year, as the 30-man shortlist has come out, a shock Liverpool star has been nominated. New signing Alisson Becker is on the shortlist and you can read more on the Liverpool website.

The year of 2018 was certainly kind to Alisson. The Brazilian reached the Champions League semi-finals with Roma before then making it to the World Cup quarter-finals with his native Brazil. After the World Cup was over, though, the Brazilian became the most expensive goalkeeper ever, albeit only for a few weeks, when he secured his big-money move to Liverpool and since then he hasn’t looked back.
The 26-year-old is nowhere near his peak in terms of goalkeeping. Most men between the sticks don’t reach their full potential until they’re around the 30 mark and if that’s the case then Liverpool fans have a reason to be excited with Alisson. So far he’s been phenomenal on Merseyside and bar one slip up against Leicester City he truly has been worth every penny. In ten games for The Reds he’s kept five clean sheets and conceded just six times and it really is no surprise to see him up for the prestigious solo award.

Congrats to AB…He’s been pretty much top drawer….But not even he could get anywhere near this stunner from Marhez pic.twitter.com/uEvtWJtqyp
