A lot of Liverpool fans on Twitter have been reading into a situation between soon-to-be player, Xherdan Shaqiri and fringe player, Marko Grujic. Grujic’s Serbia lost 2-1 to Shaqiri’s Switzerland at the World Cup in a politically charged game and when Shaqiri scored the late winner he celebrated with the ‘Albian eagle’ that highlights the tension between the two countries.

A large number of the Swiss national team are from Kosovan or Albian heritage and the on-going Balkan conflict between Serbia, Albania and Kosovo meant that the fixture between Switzerland and Serbia had much added tension. In the end, Switzerland’s win over Serbia meant that they qualified from the group ahead of the Serb’s alongside Brazil from their group, although they ultimately lost to Sweden in the round-of-sixteen.
After the game, Marko Grujic took to Instagram where he liked a post that had described Shaqiri as ‘not a good person’ for choosing to celebrate using the political message. Now that Shaqiri is set to sign for Liverpool it could cause tension between the two players and cause an issue in the squad. Luckily for the Reds, it looks like Grujic will be going back out on loan to Cardiff this season anyway.

Keep Balkan war out of Anfield, please. No Shakiri.

If Shakiri signs then Klopp will sort out any problems

Any issues that Shaqiri’s signing may cause will probably be resolved if Grujic is to leave the club for the season.
