Liverpool fans appreciated the actions of Aston Villa manager Dean Smith following the Reds’ 5-0 defeat in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were forced to play two matches within 24 hours after the EFL ordered the match to be played on Tuesday, while they face Mexican side Monterrey on Wednesday in Qatar.
As a result, Liverpool played a younger and less experienced team at Villa Park, with the side that won the Champions League last season chosen to make the long trip over to the Middle East to compete in the Club World Cup.
Goals from Conor Hourihane, Jonathan Kodjia, Wesley Moraes and an own goal from Morgan Boyes ensured that Villa advanced to the semi-finals. However, manager Dean Smith made sure that he did one more thing before leaving the ground.
Neil Critchley says Dean Smith and John Terry came into the #LFC dressing room to congratulate the players on their performance.
“That was a special moment. Top class.”

Smith, alongside assistant manager John Terry, went into the away dressing room to congratulate the young Reds and wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season.
Supporters appreciated the actions of Smith after the final whistle and made their feelings clear towards him on social media.
Here you will find some of the many respectful comments from Liverpool fans:
