Despite being knocked out of the FA Cup, Liverpool fans are taking some positives from an otherwise disappointing display at Stamford Bridge. Indeed, many supporters are praising young Neco Williams, who played 90 minutes alongside Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
The 18-year-old defender definitely wasn’t the worst Liverpool player on the pitch last night given some of the fume directed Fabinho’s way and fans are more than aware of this. Williams was picked ahead Trent Alexander-Arnold in their fifth-round FA Cup match, joining the back four ranks with Liverpool’s first-team defenders.
The Welshman boasts a rating of 8/10 given by the Liverpool Echo after his promising performance both in defence and going forward. No Chelsea player managed to dribble past the teenager, which can’t be said for Gomez and Andrew Robertson, who were both dribbled past once, via WhoScored.
Plenty of Liverpool fans are thrilled with Williams’ performance and have high hopes for him going forward. One fan has hailed him as a ‘future Anfield legend’, with even James Pearce titling him ‘brilliant’.
Superb defending from Neco Williams.
