Plenty of Liverpool fans acknowledged the performance given by Brighton goalkeeper Mat Ryan in the Reds’ 2-1 win at Anfield this afternoon.
While the home side saw their goalkeeper Alisson endure a bad day by getting sent off, his opposite number did plenty to help his team against the Premier League leaders, pulling off no fewer than five saves as he restricted Liverpool to two goals despite the hosts having seven shots on target.
The Australian did well to keep out a low drive from Roberto Firmino shortly before the Reds opened the scoring and he then pulled off a tremendous double save to thwart Firmino and Sadio Mane in close succession. [via Sky Sports]
Aside from regularly keeping Liverpool’s attack at bay, the Australian also recorded an excellent passing success rate of 92.9%, finding a team-mate with 26 of his 28 passes. Despite those impressive figures, The Independent‘s Tom Kershaw awarded Ryan only a six in his player ratings.
These Liverpool fans on Twitter were much quicker to give credit to the Brighton goalkeeper for his performance:
Pretty even first half, apart from the score, which probably flattered BHA a little thanks to Ryan in goal pic.twitter.com/JT8HtIWlpU

On one hand Brighton have had a lot of the ball but on the other they’ve had like 1 good chance while Mat Ryan’s top class performance is all that’s stood in the way of them being 3 or 4 down #LIVBHA

Brighton have played well in patches of this game but we're very much in third gear. Mat Ryan has been very good again. Van Dijk showing he's the best in the world again. #LFC

Only Brighton goalie Matty Ryan preventing this one from being a blowout, it's 2-0 Liverpool already and Ryan has made some excellent saves #LIVBHA

Brighton decided to be brave and go for our throat, but we knocked them down and put our foot on theirs. Matt Ryan is not going down without a fight though, he's made some essential saves to stop this being a runaway.
