Several Liverpool fans were left asking questions following Jurgen Klopp’s decision to play Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out on the left in the 4-0 win over Southampton.
Although he is capable of operating on the flanks, Oxlade-Chamberlain has mainly played in the middle this season (as shown on WhoScored). However, this time around, Klopp opted for the former when deploying the 26-year-old. And in the end, it was a decision that paid off.
It was Oxlade-Chamberlain who managed to open the scoring for his side, coming in from that left-hand side before firing past Alex McCarthy. Overall, it was a strong performance from the England international, who earned a match rating of 8.0 on WhoScored.
Next up in the Premier League for Oxlade-Chamberlain and the league leaders is a trip to Carrow Road to take on relegation-threatened Norwich City.

Ox on the wings is waste of space.

Ox doesn’t seem to offer much on the wings. Maybe a Minamino or Origi would have been a better option.
