Liverpool: Fans react as Jamie Carragher issues verdict on full-backs - Liverpool

Liverpool’s hair-raising 4-3 victory against Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday night saw the Reds’ backline turn from heroes to villains and then heroes again.

Is Liverpool's defence starting to be a bit of a worry?

Left-back Andrew Robertson bagged Liverpool’s second of the night and it was assisted by none other than Liverpool’s right-back Trent-Alexander Arnold. Everything seemed to have fallen to pieces after that when they lost a three-goal lead, but all was forgotten after Mohammed Salah stuck in the winner.

Alexander-Arnold and Robertson haven’t had the most impressive starts to the season so far, arguably, with the former bagging just one goal and two assists in the league, and the latter making just two league assists. This may be seen as decent form for a full-back after seven games, but they’ve perhaps fallen short of the incredibly high standards they set themselves last season, where Robertson got 11 assists and Alexander-Arnold got 12 (as per WhoScored).

However, Jamie Carragher took to Twitter to focus on their link up for the second goal, and he referenced the Sky Sports studio banter he had with Gary Neville surrounding no kid ever growing up wanting to be a Gary Neville, or a full-back, as the United legend was. Carragher posted “who grows up & wants to be a full back!” and then used the hashtag #robbo and #trent, and Liverpool fans lapped it up in the replies.

You can see some of their reactions to the tweet below:
