Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has indicated that he could retire from football management when his current contract expires in 2022, as reported by The Mirror.
David Maddock, who is the newspaper’s Northern Football Correspondent, pointed out on Twitter (via @MaddockMirror) that while Klopp made the comments in a light-hearted manner, it is not the first time that he has hinted at stepping back from the sport.

The Mirror reported that the Liverpool manager was in Germany earlier this week to receive a coaching award in his homeland, adding that it was a year ago when he suggested that he could leave the game earlier than most managers.
The Mirror added that, when Klopp was asked what is the next step in his career after winning the Champions League, he replied: “I hope to continue like this, but in two, three years I don’t know what may happen. Maybe I’ll retire!
“It doesn’t necessarily mean it will happen, however, but if that were the case, you wouldn’t be surprised.”
As pointed out by Maddock in The Mirror, if Klopp remains at Liverpool until 2022, he will have been at Anfield for seven years, the same length as his previous managerial stints with Mainz and Borussia Dortmund.
These Liverpool fans on Twitter were philosophical about the manager’s retirement hint:
Future should be thought about but not too much. Let’s enjoy what we have with this great, great manager. We have 3 more years with him. The ways things are shaping, he will be leaving us as a super club that won’t fall again, although will be a sad day when the time comes.

He’s leaving. Most realistic fans know this. However we still have a pl to win in 3 seasons. Let’s get it done

In two years I’d be very surprised. Unless of course he’d like to try his hand in Italy or Spain.

He is still the manager for at least 3 years. Concentrate on the present and enjoy Klopp and his team while they are here. The future will take care of itself.

Will be a sad day when he does but reinforces even more how you have to enjoy the highs of football whilst you can
