Liverpool: Fans react to Caoimhin Kelleher's piece of skill for Ireland under-21s - Liverpool

Caoimhin Kelleher may still be waiting on his first team debut at Liverpool, but the young goalkeeper caught the eye for Republic of Ireland’s under-21 side in their 3-1 win over Sweden yesterday.

The national team’s official Twitter channel @FAIreland shared a video of one audacious piece of skill from the 20-year-old in the European qualifier in Kalmar.

Under pressure from the advancing Daleho Irandust, Kelleher casually feinted before knocking the ball slightly to his right as the Sweden striker was about to get to it.

The Irish goalkeeper is one of the understudies to Alisson at Anfield, with the Brazil international no stranger to similar moments of audacity.

Against Brighton last year, he coolly flicked the ball over Anthony Knockaert’s head before controlling it effortlessly, as noted by the Irish Mirror.

A week later, Alisson paid for his risk-taking approach against Leicester when he was overly casual in possession and allowed Kelechi Iheanacho to dispossess him and set up a goal for Rachid Ghezzal. [via Irish Mirror]

These Liverpool fans on Twitter drew comparison between the two goalkeepers following Kelleher’s skilful moment for the Ireland under-21 side, as well as one fan comparing him to Roberto Firmino:
