Liverpool fans react to Mohamed Salah’s Puskas nomination

Liverpool supporters have been in fine voice in recent times after seeing their team maintain their 100% start to the new Premier League season just prior to the current break for internationals.

Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their encounter with Leicester City last time out having got past West Ham, Crystal Palace, and Brighton in their opening three matches, all of which without conceding a goal. And while they weren’t at their best at the King Power Stadium on September 1, they got the job done thanks to first half goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, and although Rachid Ghezzal got one back for the Foxes after the break, it wasn’t enough to deny the Reds a fourth straight victory.

Thus, there have been many thrilled Liverpudlians up and down the country in recent times, and they are likely to be further delighted by the recent announcement on the club’s official Twitter handle that Mohamed Salah’s goal against Everton has been nominated for the 2018 FIFA Puskas Award.

The Egypt international enjoyed a sensational debut campaign at Anfield last season in netting 44 goals and laying on 16 assists in just 52 appearances for the Reds, 32 of which coming in the Premier League to thus win the division’s Golden Boot award.

And one of those 32 goals has been nominated by FIFA for this year’s Puskas Award, which crowns the best goal from July 2017 to July 2018, which is an announcement that has stimulated quite a response from Liverpool supporters on Twitter.

And while several congratulated the 26-year-old on the nomination, many were saying the same thing in that his strike against Everton was not the best goal he scored last season, with some feeling that his effort against Tottenham was a more worthy candidate…
