Liverpool fans react to the news that Gareth Southgate will rest Tottenham’s Harry Kane

Liverpool supporters have been in high spirits in the last week or so after seeing their team head into the current break for internationals top of the Premier League and with their 100% start to the season very much intact.

Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their most recent encounter with Leicester City off the back of victories over West Ham, Crystal Palace, and Brighton in their opening three matches, in which time they didn’t concede a goal. And while they did ship their first of the campaign at the King Power Stadium last time out, it didn’t derail their 100% start as first half goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino secured a 2-1 success for the Merseyside giants, thus retaining their place at the summit of the English top-flight.

Subsequently, there have been many thrilled Liverpudlians up and down the country in recent times, several of whom are likely to be interested by the news that England manager Gareth Southgate will rest Tottenham striker Harry Kane against Switzerland this evening.

25-year-old Kane enjoyed a fine summer with his country in winning the Golden Boot at the World Cup in Russia, but has so far this season looked somewhat off the pace in starting all four of Spurs’ league games, as well as playing the full 90 minutes as the Three Lions lost 2-1 to Spain in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday.

Yet England boss Southgate has made the decision to rest the forward against the Swiss this evening, in news which has stimulated quite a reaction from Liverpool fans on Twitter, with their side to face Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday.

As such, it’s fair to say that several Reds supporters really aren’t happy with 48-year-old Southgate regarding his recent decision…
