Liverpool: Fans respond to Michael Owen’s post-Atletico comments

In a surprising turn of events, the reigning champions of Europe have exited this season’s Champions League in the Round of 16 stage. Ex-Liverpool star Michael Owen has commented on their defeat to Atletico Madrid, and fans are actually agreeing with him for once.
The Reds found their European journey cut surprisingly short on Wednesday night after Diego Simeone’s resilient team were too organised at Anfield. Despite goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino to tip the scales in Liverpool’s favour, Atletico’s three away goals completely counteracted their hard work.
Michael Owen commented on the team after the match: “There’s no question whatsoever that every single big team around Europe has just breathed a huge sigh of relief, Liverpool are out, and I’ve got no doubts that they are the best team in Europe at the moment.
“The difference between the two was the goalkeepers.” (via Evening Standard).
Although fans are known for being rather ‘anti-Owen’, the majority couldn’t help but agree with the former Reds striker. One supporter has said ‘I never thought I’d agree with this man again… yet here we are!’.
I love what he said even though he is a traitor that nice to hear…
