Liverpool: Fans ridicule Adam Lallana’s comments about new role with the Reds

Adam Lallana has cited a team-mate and a La Liga name as influences in his adaptation to a defensive midfield position at Liverpool.

In an interview with The Times, the 31-year-old spoke of watching Fabinho and Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong to get a better understanding of the ‘number six’ role in which he played during pre-season, with @TimesSport sharing a link to the interview on Twitter.

The England international has not had any real chance to prove his worth as a defensive midfielder in competitive action, having been given only 15 minutes off the bench so far this season.

Having scored eight goals in 34 appearances in 2016/17, hamstring injuries the following campaign would lead to his involvement in Liverpool’s first team being curtailed.

Since the start of 2017/18, Lallana has started only six Premier League games and made just 33 appearances in all competitions without scoring.

These Liverpool fans on Twitter seemed unconvinced by the midfielder’s comments about reinventing himself in a new position:

Can you see Lallana successfully adapting to a defensive midfield role at Liverpool or will he struggle to ever make it back into their first XI? Let us know your views by commenting below!
