Liverpool: Fans ridicule Michael Owen’s claim about players from his former club

One-time Liverpool striker Michael Owen has claimed that players from another of his former clubs are not “far inferior” to the current crop at Anfield.

The 39-year-old, who also played for Manchester United, told ESPN [via Liverpool Echo] that he feels the players in the Old Trafford club’s current squad are close in quality to those at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal.

Liverpool-focused Twitter channel @AnfieldWatch posted a Liverpool Echo link to Owen’s comments with a pull-quote from the former Reds player, who said: “Are Manchester United players far inferior to Liverpool’s? I don’t necessarily think so.

While Klopp’s Liverpool lead the Premier League with four wins out of four, Manchester United have won just one of their league matches so far this season and are seven points adrift of the Merseysiders. [via premierleague.com]
