For Liverpool fans, there have been some shocking signings rock up at Anfield, and it’s hard to pick the worst. The likes of Mario Balotelli, Iago Aspas, El Hadji Diouf, Lazar Markovic and Alberto Aquilani all spring to mind, but the worst of the lot simply has to be their £35 million purchase of Andy Carroll back in January 2011.
Question of the day:
Who do you think is the most disappointing signing in Liverpool’s history?
Not necessarily the worst player, but the one you were really excited about when they joined but they failed to meet your expectations at all?

Every football club’s fan base has had some shockers that they’ll never forget, but when you factor in the cost of this move as well as the fact that the player in question is Andy Carroll, it’s certainly hard to top. This was also in the same transfer window that Fernando Torres made his massive mid-season switch to Chelsea for the sum of £50 million, making this move even more painful.
Aside from just the shockers that have come in at Anfield, this is probably up there as one of the worst signings in the history of the Premier League. After his time at Anfield, Carroll has gone on to be somewhat prolific for West Ham, but his time on Merseyside was a shambles from start to finish and the Kopites will always regretfully look back on this one as £35 million they’ll never get back.

In terms of the money we paid out it has to be Andy Carroll. Absolutely abysmal signing especially taking the price into consideration

The Reds will be desperate to avoid repeating a move like the one that saw Andy Carroll join the club, and under Jurgen Klopp they’re pretty confident that this kind of mistake won’t be repeated.
