Van Dijk’s goal for Liverpool in the 4-1 win over Norwich on the opening day of the Premier League season was his fifth in the league since the beginning of last season.
The first of those came in a 2-0 win at Wolves last December, followed by a brace in the 5-0 hammering of Watford in February and one in the Reds’ 3-2 success at Newcastle towards the end of the campaign.
The Netherlands centre-back has also provided two league assists for Jurgen Klopp’s team, which came in 3-1 and 2-0 wins over Burnley and Chelsea respectively.
Manchester United winger Lingard has yet to contribute to a goal this season, though, and managed just four goals and two assists in the 2018/19 Premier League.
Remarkably, all four of those goals came in an 18-day spell during last December, one of them against Liverpool, and the 26-year-old hasn’t found the net in the league since his double against Cardiff eight months ago.
These Liverpool fans on Twitter took the opportunity to taunt Lingard over his inferior goal record to Reds defender van Dijk:
Not a fair comparison. Lingard is only a youngster. He’s a great prospect, just needs time.

Definitely a fair comparison especially when u factor in the fact that all of lingards goals and assists came in December 2018 and one since or before

Lingard with those stats will probably be put up for young player of the year even tho the kid is about 26
