Liverpool fans fumed after they found out that referee Martin Atkinson will take charge of their Premier League clash against Brighton.
The experienced official has been involved in controversy during the current campaign while he has been refereeing matches involving the Reds, with two moments that did not go down well with the Kop faithful.
Which competition should Liverpool prioritise?
Club World Cup
Atkinson took charge of the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford earlier in the season where he controversially disallowed a goal from Liverpool’s Sadio Mane for handball. He also did not give a foul on Divock Origi in the build up to Marcus Rashford’s opener for Manchester United.

The other incident was when he was working on the newly-introduced VAR during the 2-1 win against Aston Villa. He agreed with the assistant referee on an incorrect offside call and Sky Sports pundit Chris Kamara proved that the lines that Atkinson drew using the software were not straight.
Supporters were not impressed with the news and made their feelings clear about Atkinson on social media.
