Liverpool: Fans unimpressed with Spanish journalist’s views on Sergio Ramos

A Spanish journalist has come out in defence of Real Madrid centre-back Sergio Ramos, believing him to be a more deserving Ballon d’Or candidate than Liverpool counterpart Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool-focused Twitter channel @AnfieldEdition tweeted quotes from Joaquin Morato expressing his thoughts on the two defenders.
Spanish journalist Joaquin Morato: “Van Dijk yes [for the Ballon D’Or], and Sergio Ramos no? I am shocked that half the world is claiming the Golden Ball for Van Dijk. This trophy has eluded Sergio Ramos, whose numbers the Liverpool defender cannot even dream of reaching.”

Van Dijk was recently crowned UEFA Men’s Player of the Year, having helped Liverpool to win the Champions League last season, and has been nominated for the FIFA Best Men’s Player Award for 2019 alongside Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ramos has won the Champions League four times in his career, along with four La Liga titles, four FIFA Club World Cups and two Copa Del Rey trophies with Real Madrid, along with two European Championships and the World Cup for Spain. [via TransferMarkt.co.uk]
However, as reported by The Guardian, the 33-year-old was heavily criticised following the 2018 Champions League final against Liverpool, in which he tussled with Mohamed Salah, who left the field in tears through injury, and was also accused of deliberately elbowing Reds goalkeeper Loris Karius.
These Liverpool fans on Twitter ridiculed Morato’s claim that Ramos, who has been sent off 25 times in his club career, is more deserving of Ballon d’Or candidacy than van Dijk:
I am sure vvd can defend better against messi instead of kicking him..nor he relies on dislocating collar bones of opposition or elbowing goalie

Vvd 18/19 ruins Ramos legacy he eclipsed anything Ramos has ever done individually

Ramos was never real Madrid’s POTY (It was always cristiano), or the best player in the league, VVD has which makes him a legitimate contender.
Ramos will always be remembered as the defender who makes up for his terrible defending with risky tackles that always get him sent off

Number of fouls/cards per game must be that number

Ramos has never been a worldclass defender and without him Real Madrid would've still won the trophies they won.

He can suffer in silence a new boss in town. End of the debate.
