For all the excitement, flair and pure footballing joy Liverpool have delivered this season, you can’t help but think there’s still something missing.
In between an unmoveable defence marshalled by the imperious Virgil van Dijk and the electrifying attack that can dismantle any team in the blink of an eye lies a small flaw in Liverpool’s footballing machine that almost led them to the Premier League title, no outright playmaker.
Of course, this hasn’t been much of a problem this season with the front three doing most of the heavy work themselves and the midfield doing enough to shield the defence whilst also bringing enough to the plate on the attack, but an out-and-out playmaker has been a lacking figure for Liverpool this campaign, and reports suggest Jurgen Klopp is in the hunt for one.
According to the Daily Mail via Hammers News, the Reds are interested in West Ham winger Felipe Anderson, who has been a sensation for the east London club since his to the English capital from Lazio last summer, and the Brazilian could be the missing link for Klopp’s title dreams.
Valued at £36 million on Transfermarkt, Anderson could be the player to fill the void left by Philippe Coutinho nearly 18 months ago.
The winger has proven to be both a dangerous attacking presence as well as a creative powerhouse for the Hammers this season, scoring nine goals and assisting four in his debut year in the Premier League, and surrounded by the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will only improve Anderson’s game.
Liverpool were inches away from their first Premier League title, and if the club were to go big this summer and splash the cash on Anderson it could be the difference between finishing one point off first place and Jordan Henderson lifting the trophy come May next year.
Liverpool fans, would Anderson be a good signing this summer? Let us know!
