Liverpool fans are cursing in the Transfer Tavern as their belief that their club has turned a corner appears to be short-lived, as question marks circle the head of a star-player.
The Telegraph reports Liverpool are digging their heels into the ground in regards to contract discussions with midfielder Emre Can and the club are prepared to let contract talks rumble into next season.
German ace Can has excelled at Anfield following Jurgen Klopp’s appointment, becoming a key-player for the side, but his contract is due to expire at the end of next season and Liverpool risk losing the £55k-a-week star’s services in a free transfer.
Negotiations are ongoing but Jurgen Klopp will not issue an ultimatum to the 23-year-old and will continue to use him next season, even if the German hasn’t put pen to paper on a new deal.
The club are confident that Can will extend his deal despite the delay and Klopp, who rates Can very highly, is determined to use him for as long as he can – even if the player decides to seek a free transfer next summer.
Our landlord believes this talk isn’t significant though, as he’s adamant Can will extend his deal at Anfield.
A handful of Reds fans here in the Transfer Tavern are very apprehensive to say the least, and have a slight fear that Can may ditch Merseyside if the wages he is offered are not up to scratch.
